It happened just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday, July 13 in Nassau County.
Nassau County Police Department officers, while on routine patrol, observed the defendant Roberto Roldan, 46, of Freeport operating a gray 2013 Chevrolet Impala, southbound on Nassau Road in Roosevelt. A vehicle and traffic law investigation was conducted at North Main Street and Davis Street when Roldan pulled his vehicle over.
During the investigation, officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana and Roldan was found to have a suspended license. Roldan was placed under arrest and a subsequent search was conducted of his vehicle.
During the vehicle search officers discovered the semi-automatic handgun, located under the front passenger seat. A green leafy substance believed to be marijuana was also recovered inside the vehicle cup holder.
Roldan has been charged with:
- criminal possession of a weapon,
- criminal possession of a weapon,
- criminal possession of a firearm,
- criminal possession of stolen property,
- aggravated unlicensed operation,
- unlawful possession of marijuana,
- three vehicle and traffic law infractions.
He will be arraigned on Sunday, July 14 at First District Court, 99 Main Street Hempstead.
